Price Stability Development Outcome: Create decent employment through inclusive economic growth Output Performance Statistical information on consumer price changes Consumer Price Index (CPI): Published as scheduled Statistical information on producer price changes Key priority: Commenced with the review of the PPI Producer Price Index (PPI): Published as scheduled Five-yearly statistical information on Income and expenditure trends Income and Expenditure Survey (IES): Pilot conducted as scheduled Improvements/ Challenges: Develop a suite of independent PPI’s over a period of several years Review and improve on several areas in the CPI incorporating international trends such as quality adjustment of products, enhanced satellite surveys of housing, health and domestic workers wages Gearing up for a new round of reweighting and rebasing of the CPI

Improving statistical products and services
Output Performance Updated sample frame for the collection of social statistics Key priority: 53% Dwelling frame completed – not achieved at municipal level Dwelling frame: Collected 9.4 million points (68%) Updated sample frame for the collection of economic statistics Business register: Common sampling frame compiled as scheduled Quality management SASQAF toolkit and operational standards and guidelines developed. Training conducted. Statistical standards and definitions reviewed developed Monitoring and evaluation of statistical series PES for pilot census conducted as scheduled M&E framework developed Improved data governance Data management strategy, policy and standards not developed as scheduled. Statistical coordination and partnerships
Output Performance Participation in SADC, Africa and the World Key priority: Hosted ISI2009 successfully Statistical development initiatives in Africa: ASSD, SHASA South African National Statistics System NSDS – not achieved. Focus on developing a new strategic direction - Production of official and other statistics for evidence based decisions. 10 partners trained in SASQAF Department of Science and Technology assessed against SASQAF; declared official Technical support to Education in compiling statistical standards; Technical reports on quality of data by partners Stakeholder relations management, marketing and communication Increased accessibility and usage of statistical products: 5,7 million visitor sessions and approximately publications downloaded Challenges: Addressing the information gap, quality gap and skills gap in the South African National Statistics System (SANSS)
