Equality is about fairness and ensuring that we all have the best possible chance to succeed in life and work whatever our background or identity. Diversity is about recognising, valuing and celebrating these differences. It is about creating an environment that is inclusive of these differences, where we all feel welcome, valued and supported to succeed whatever our background or identity.

Legally protected characteristics
age disability gender reassignment marriage and civil partnership (but only in respect of eliminating unlawful discrimination) pregnancy and maternity race—this includes ethnic or national origins, colour or nationality religion or belief—this includes lack of belief sex sexual orientation
