The Big Idea: The Articles of Confederation provided a framework for a national govern’t.

3 Lesson One: The Articles of Confederation Background:
The US declares independence from England and now has to form a new government. 13 States met to work out a plan for a new national government which would be called the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was a constitution written during the American Revolution to establish the powers of the new national government. (*ratified in 1781)

English laws that limited the power of the king were the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights. The Enlightenment was a philosophical movement that emphasized the use of reason to examine old ideas and traditions.
