Homework Homework is very structured in the sense that it will be the same format each night for term 1. Homework should take 30 mins of focused work – if a child exceeds this time, parents can give them a cut-off point (45 mins max.) Please continue to check homework and sign journals every night, especially Homework Club children.

Mathematics We are aware of the levels of concern nationwide about the standard of Maths. Taking this into account, we team-teach in Maths and stream the children into 4 groups based on ability levels. The four teachers involved are Ms. Fallon, Ms. Dineen, Ms. Di Murro & Ms. Downes Placement in the different groups is based on their Sigma T standardised test results from the end of 2nd class and classroom assessments since September. There is movement within the four groups throughout the year, pending on progress made.

How can parents help? Establish good homework routines.
Check homework for each subject. Sign journals every night. Listen to reading every night. Sign copies or feel free to comment on copywork. Sign tests. Use journal as the main medium of communication. Deliver messages for the children through Marian. Keep the pencil case stocked up. Healthy breakfast & healthy lunches. Early to bed. Limit screen time. Maintain ongoing open communication with the teacher.

Project Work The children have been given a research project on an animal of their choice. See checklist

Thank you! Main objective for the year is that every child has a positive learning experience in this class and makes progress in line with their ability.
