3. Why does the Farm Service Agency (FSA) exist?
The Illinois Farm Service Agency currently has 84 county offices to provide programs and services to the family farmers who produce your food, fiber, and fuel. FSA does this so farmers can produce a safe, sustainable, sufficient, and nutritious food supply for American families. Just one American farmer provides enough food for155 people.

9. Conservation Compliance
Highly Erodible Land Conservation (HELC) and Wetland Conservation (WC) provisions aim to reduce soil loss on erosion-prone lands and to protect wetlands for the multiple benefits they provide. HELC and WC provisions apply to all land that is considered highly erodible or a wetland, and that is owned or farmed by persons voluntarily participating in USDA programs, unless USDA determines an exemption applies.

In addition, producers planning to conduct activities that may affect their HEL or WC compliance; removing fence rows, conducting drainage activities, or combining fields, must notify FSA by filing form AD FSA will notify NRCS, and NRCS will then provide highly erodible land or wetland technical evaluations and issue determinations if needed.

The CP42 Practice is pretty straightforward and you may already be familiar with it. It was first introduced as a General Signup Practice that could be used in conjunction with eligible practices. This changed in May of 2013 when WDC authorized it as a stand alone continuous practice.
At a minimum, each habitat area must be at least 0.5 acre and if they are planting the habitat area in strips, at a minimum, they must be 20 feet wide. Producers are limited to a maximum of 100 acres per farm.
