APICS CLTD Certification Program Development
Program Goals and Purpose Advance APICS mission; foster advancement of the profession Extend APICS value in additional domains of the supply chain Create additional APICS-AST&L merger value Serve existing members, attract new members Elevate awareness, professionalism, and knowledge/skills of Logistics, Transportation & Distribution practitioners Serve as voice of the Logistics profession Meet the market needs for a larger audience of Logistics practitioners and their employers Set the global standard for Logistics best practices APICS Vision Statement APICS—the world’s leading community for end-to-end supply chain excellence. APICS Mission Fostering the advancement of end-to- end supply chain management through a body of knowledge, innovative research, systems, and methods to create value for customers, members, and organizations Why CLTD? First and foremost, this new certification helps to advance APICS’ mission: to foster the advancement of end-to-end supply chain management. The merger with the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, or AST&L, gave us the “raw materials,” if you will, to expand into the Logistics area of the supply chain. The CLTD replaces the AST&L Certified in Transportation and Logistics, or CTL and helps us better serve our current members and attract new members. Finally, just as we did with CPIM and Operations Management and CSCP and Supply Chain Management, we want to elevate the awareness, professionalism, knowledge and skills of Logistics, Transportation and Distribution practitioners.

CLTD Certification Market Map
Strategic Directors – leading and creating logistics body of knowledge, best practices, technology, standards Required Level of: Knowledge Skill Education Experience Increasing Level of: Value to Organization Job Complexity Job Level + Responsibility Tactical Managers – deploying and using logistics body of knowledge, best practices, technology, standards Certified CLTD Target Market Operational Support staff– following logistics body of knowledge, best practices, technology, standards So, who is our market for the CLTD? When we look at Logistics, Transportation and Distribution positions, the Operational, or Support Staff supports the Tactical, or Managerial, level, which, in turn, supports the strategic, or Director and above, level. As you move up from Operational to Strategic each group gets smaller, the amount of knowledge, skill, education and experience increases, as does the individual’s value to their organization, job complexity and responsibility. Like CPIM and CSCP, the new CLTD is designed to target the Manager level of Logistics, Transportation and Distribution professionals. Certainly we expect to see candidates from the Operational and Strategic levels, but the target market is Managers. Market Size

APICS CLTD Exam Computer-based testing globally with Pearson VUE
150 multiple-choice questions (20 pre-test questions) Candidates have 3.5 hours to complete Scaled score range , minimum passing score is 300 The CLTD will be a single exam and will be offered on demand (that is, there will be no exam windows) by Pearson VUE, starting October 1. This gives you and your instructors three months to prepare before you can take the exam. The exam will contain 150 questions – 20 of them pre-test, or non-scored questions. Candidates will have 3 ½ hours to complete the exam and we’ll use Scaled Scoring like we do for other APICS Certification exams. However, anyone who takes the exam between October 1 and January 1 will not get an immediate score. Because the entire exam is new, we will need at least 200 (non-instructors) to take the exam before we can run a Cut Score event and determine the passing raw score. Anyone taking the exam during this period should have their scores and pass/fail information by January 1, After that date, all exams will be scored immediately when the candidate finishes the exam.

Until that time we will encourage both self-study and study groups. If you want to prepare for the exam, we recommend putting together a study group of other instructors and volunteers. If you have a company who wants to get started right away with CLTD, we recommend helping them set up a study group as well. We’ll have more information about facilitating a successful study group when we publish the Learning System.
