Fig. 1 Nonepileptic vs. epileptic temporal cortical cerebral blood flow (CBF) during the preictal (interictal) (left), periictal (center) and postictal (right) periods. During the pre- and postictal periods, the CBF relationship between nonepileptic and epileptic temporal cortex is the inverse of normal (i.e. linear with negative slope) [1]. However, during the periictal period (i.e. 5min before and 5min following clinical seizure onset), the bitemporal CBF relationship returns to “normal” (i.e. linear with positive slope).
