Estates General Estates General-
Undemocratic congress in which laws were passed by French government (see pyramid and drawing) Why do you think it was undemocratic? Called in session by King Louis XVI in order to raise more tax money

Three Estates First and Second Estate- made up of high ranking clergy and nobles The Third Estate- made up of bourgeoisie, peasants (professionals and laborers) They had the heaviest tax burden Did the work that the other estates needed to survive The Estates General- lawmaking body that represented all three groups
