Finding the “Geometric” Average!!!
Geometric Mean Finding the “Geometric” Average!!!
2
Rules of Radicals Simplifying radicals Multiplying radicals
Break into prime factors Pair up matching factors and pull 1 out Multiply factors Multiplying radicals Multiply coefficients to coefficients Multiply radical to radical Simplify
3
Rules of Radicals Adding/Subtracting radicals Dividing with radicals
You can only add radicals if the radicals are the same. Simplify to try and get matching radicals Add / Subtract coefficient to coefficient Do not change the radical Dividing with radicals Radicals CANNOT be in the denominator of a fraction Multiply by a “funny looking one” Multiply numerator to numerator Multiply denominator to denominator Simplify both the numerator and denominator

Radicals practice – In notebook
5
a x = x b Geometric Mean The geometric mean Any two numbers
The geometric mean is actually a proportion! The geometric mean a x = x b Any two numbers
6
Examples—find the geometric mean (you must simplify any radical answers)
1. Find the geometric mean between 14 and 28 14 a x = x 28 b 392 = x2 7 2 = x

Examples—find the geometric mean (you must simplify any radical answers)
1. Find the geometric mean between 15 and 75 15 a x = x 75 b 1125 = x2 3 5 x =
