A PPT PRESANTATION ON “FOUR STROKE PEROL ENGINE” AGNIHOTRI college of engineering, WARDHA Under the Guidance of PROF. RAKHI DOLAS Presented By SHUBHAM A. WASNIK 2013/10/09

2 ENGINE An engine is motor which converts chemical energy into mechanical energy. 2009/10/05

3 Otto Cycle: Dr. Nicolaus Otto - 1876
HISTORY Otto Cycle: Dr. Nicolaus Otto 2009/10/05 mmpmm

4 HISTORY One of the most important landmark in engine design by Nicolas August Otto in 1876 who is invented as effective four stroke engine. That’s why it is also called as “Otto cycle engine”. In 1885 German mechanical engineer, Karl Benz designed and built the world’s first practical automobile to be powered by an internal-combustion engine, on January 29, 1886. 2009/10/05 mmpmm

5 The Basics A four-stroke engine: Is an internal combustion engine
Converts gasoline into motion Is the most common car engine type Is relatively efficient Is relatively inexpensive

6 How work a Four Stroke Engine Following are the four stroke:
1-Intake/Suction Stroke 2-Copression Stroke 3-Expansion Stroke 4-Exhaust Stroke 2009/10/05 mmpmm

7 Four stroke cycle Intake stroke Piston moving down Intake valve open
Exhaust valve closed 2009/10/05 mmpmm

8 Four stroke cycle Compression stroke Piston moving up
Intake valve closed Exhaust valve closed 2009/10/05 mmpmm

9 Four stroke cycle Power stroke Piston moving down Intake valve closed
Exhaust valve closed 2009/10/05 mmpmm

10 Four stroke cycle Exhaust stroke Piston moving up Intake valve closed
Exhaust valve open 2009/10/05

11 Four stroke cycle (Petrol) 2009/10/05

12 Piston Dwell Time Piston travel is at a minimum TDC and BDC
Crank moves horizontally Piston velocity Maximum when rod is 90° to crank Acceleration Maximum 30° earlier Best VE is obtained by synchronizing valve opening with piston speeds 2009/10/05 mmpmm

13 Other Valve Position Overlap Both valves are open
End of exhaust & start of intake Low pressure in exhaust port Blow down Exhaust valve opens before BDC To help evacuate cylinder before piston reverses Pumping losses at end of exhaust stroke 2009/10/05 mmpmm

14 Petrol Engine Advantages More torque even at idling speed
No Scavenging problems No fresh mixture escaping with exhaust gases. Disadvantages Low power to weight ratio More moving parts, not suitable for high speed More number of stroke per circle 2009/10/05 mmpmm

15 CONCLUSION Weight represents the greatest nemesis of any shallow-water skiff. However if fuel priced continue trading up instead of down, then yes absolutely. Four-stroke power will always be heavier than its two-stroke counterpart unless someone makes an amazing breakthrough in metallurgy and the laws of physics. The four stoke petrol engine powers virtually every petrol engine in the world. 2009/10/05 mmpmm
