1 Train the Mind to Think What is the purpose of basketball, football, baseball, or softball practice? The mind must be trained to develop thinking skills in the same way that the body must be trained to exhibit athletic skills.

2 Objectives Define abstract and concrete.
Differentiate between literal (concrete) and abstract thinking. Identify concrete details and abstract concepts in visual texts.

3 Literal (Evidence)-representing the exact words of the original text.
Literal vs. Abstract Literal (Evidence)-representing the exact words of the original text. Abstract(Associations)-existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence.

5 In groups of 3, complete the following:
On sticky notes, write at least 2 concrete and 2 abstract descriptions of the image on the next slide. Write each of your names on your notes, and post them to the board on the way out of the classroom today.

11 Assignment Make a T Chart like the one we have been using this week. On one side, write Evidence. On the other side, write Associations (feelings/ideas). Look at the image on the next slide. List details and associations. If you list 1 correct association, you will receive a C, 2 a B, and 3 an A. If you list only details, you will receive a D and will have to work with other images until you can receive at least a C on the assignment.
