The geographic beginnings of Islam
Click me Islam begins on the Arabian Peninsula in 610 CE/AD Islam is centered on the holy cities of Mecca and Medina Other important cities include Damascus (in Modern Syria) and Jerusalem Location of Medina Location of Mecca

Mohammed the Prophet Born in Mecca in 530 CE/AD
Purportedly visited by the Angel Gabriel and told to follow Allah (god) in 610 CE/AD Flees from Mecca to Medina to avoid religious persecution in 622 CE/AD Returns to Mecca and converts all citizens to Islam in 630 CE/AD Dies in Jerusalem (ascended to heaven) in 632 CE/AD Click Here Mohammed receiving his first revelation from Gabriel

Faith (Iman): “There is none worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is the messenger of God” Prayer (Salah): obligatory prayers that are performed five times a day facing the Kaaba in Mecca Alms to the Poor (Zakah): payment of a calculated amount of wealth to charity Fasts during Ramadan (Swam): A one month fasting session from dawn to dusk to purify the soul Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj): An obligation those who are fit for the trip Click me
