1. Why are some volcanoes cone-shaped and some shield-shaped?
3
Cone-shaped volcanoes have thick lava that oozes out slowly
Cone-shaped volcanoes have thick lava that oozes out slowly. Shield-shaped volcanoes have lava that is thin and runny.
4
2. If you were traveling and found a volcano, how could you figure out if the volcano makes felsite or basalt lava?
5
Volcano shield + dark rock=basalt lava
Volcano shield + dark rock=basalt lava. Volcano cone + light rock=felsite lava.
6
3. Which volcanoes are more likely to explode, the ones with thick lava or thin lava?
7
Volcanoes with thick lava trap gas bubbles
Volcanoes with thick lava trap gas bubbles. Gas makes the volcano explode.
8
4. cone shaped volcano- formed in the shape of a hill because of thick, slow moving lava
9
5. shield shaped volcano- has thin, runny lava, so it spreads out more
10
6. felsite lava -comes from cone volcanoes and its rock is light in color
11
7. balsite lava rock- comes from shield volcanoes and its rock is dark in color
12
8. magma- molten rock under the Earth’s surface
13
9. fault- a break in the Earth’s surface
14
10. lava- molten rock that flows out of a vent to arrive at the Earth’s surface
