1 PRTS & KPI Nick Whyborn – Vasco Cortez

2 PRTS Status Update Updated JIRA forms and workflow rolled-out in May
No major issues 6 months of operations Routinely used for problem reporting PRTS downtime statistics KPI generated since June Section in monthly ADE KPI report Is being used to direct diagnostic effort through CSCG etc

3 PRTS Modification Process

4 What is Operational Downtime?
PRTS KPI ADE ESG generates a monthly KPI report including different measurements: CMMS statistics, Availability of Antenna, Critical Spares, Relocations, Operational Downtime, among others. The Operational Downtime is calculated at the basis of the information gathered from ShiftLogTool, ALMA JIRA and ICT JIRA. What is Operational Downtime?

5 Operational Downtime We consider the operational downtime as the time between an observation started and it failed or aborted. Additionally, manual downtime entries are generated to report downtime weather events, the time spend to resume the operations (technical downtime) or the time of arrays out of service. Each failed observation shall have a PR ticket associated in order to assign the downtime to a specific subsystem. As we have parallel running observations. The Operational Downtime can exceed the real allocated time. How it is calculated?

6 Operational Downtime

7 PRTS KPI Prototype

8 KPI Report Pie Chart of August Operational Downtime

9 Operational downtime associated to ICT tickets
KPI Report Operational downtime associated to ICT tickets Number of ShiftLogTool entries vs operational downtime

10 KPI automatic generation of KPI
Solution implemented with Django and JavaScript D3js visualization * Another solution can be implemented using Tableau software What next?

11 Future Improvements and Challenges
Review the prototype. Plan a meeting with stakeholders end of 2017 Q1 Develop requirements for the next phase. Feedback of the operational downtime found during the data analysis process. Communication between different tools used in ALMA Dashboard – JIRA – CMMS - Smartsheet Assess implementation options JIRA, other COTS, in-house development, external development Make a proposal to AMT for the next phase

12 Future Improvements and Challenges
PRTS Software challenges Use a database administrated by ADC Automatic database loading Automatic data acquisition from JIRA Interactive data verification and analysis Automatic KPI report Statistics analysis MTBF / Failure statistics PRTS as Input for reliability engineering analysis

13 The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), an international astronomy facility, is a partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. ALMA is funded in Europe by the European Organization for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO), in North America by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) in cooperation with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the National Science Council of Taiwan (NSC) and in East Asia by the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) of Japan in cooperation with the Academia Sinica (AS) in Taiwan. ALMA construction and operations are led on behalf of Europe by ESO, on behalf of North America by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), which is managed by Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI) and on behalf of East Asia by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ). The Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO) provides the unified leadership and management of the construction, commissioning and operation of ALMA.
