Population Multiple organisms of the same species in a given area Community Multiple populations of organisms within an area. Ecosystem Multiple similar communities. Biomes Multiple ecosystems with similar conditions (temperature, rainfall, and elevation) and flora/fauna (plants and animals)

5
What are the major biomes you remember from previous years?
6
What makes a desert different from a temperate forest?

Ecology
9
Ecology The study of the relationships between biotic and abiotic factors within a given area.
10
Abiotic Non-Living factors in an ecosystem. Air Water Soil
Temperature/sunlight Climate Elevation
11
Biotic The living organisms in an ecosystem: Plants Animals Fungus
Microorganisms
12
Abiotic, More Important Than You Think
Abiotic factors determine biotic factors.
13
Abiotic Factors Article
We will use the article to finish out your notes.
14
How does water affect the biotic?
15
How does temperature affect the biotic?
16
How does light affect the biotic?
17
How does the soil affect the biotic?

Abiotic Factors Role The abiotic factors (namely temperature and water) are the factors affect plants the most. Therefore they determine what plants live in an area. Examples: Desert plants are designed to soak up and retain as much water as they physically can. Rainforest plants are designed in a way to get water away from them. The plants (determined by the abiotic) then determines what kind of herbivores and ultimately what kind of predators can and do live in an area/region.
