Issue: Develop a Publicized University Glossary of Terms Discussions at the executive level revealed that the campus community used terminology that was neither consistent nor comprehensive across divisions.  How can a unified environment be created by developing and publicizing a glossary of terms that promotes collaboration and a true UNI-versity? Options Traditional Website? Technology already in place, but issues with… Ownership Editorship Accuracy Web 2.0 technologies e.g. wikis? Technology not in place, however we had… IT workshops featuring Web 2.0 technologies Faculty interest Strategic plan for use of innovative technologies Initially a traditional web site was proposed as a solution for a campus glossary of terms.  Challenges immediately arose regarding ownership, editorship, maintenance and accuracy.  Further examination identified wikis as a potential solution. Wiki Definition Source: Wikipedia A wiki (Hawaiian word for "fast“) is a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language. Used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites. Easy to use, no knowledge of programming required. Copyright: University of Central Oklahoma

Project Team IT Stakeholders (technical requirements) Instructional Technologists System Administrators Web Administrators Others University Community (end-user features) Faculty Members Staff Members A core team consisting of academic technologists, system administrators, web administrators, and other IT stakeholders was developed to identify technical requirements.  There was also an investigation of the current usage of subscription based wikis in limited areas on campus.  The team focus was expanded to receive input from these areas and the university community at-large regarding important end-user features.  Looking beyond the initial requirements, the UCO Office of Information Technology, in partnership with the Faculty Enhancement Center, presented "Enhanced Student Learning with Web 2.0" during the university's Faculty Enhancement Day.  A buzz was created about using these types of tools for learning.  Support was given to initiate a project for university-wide solution. Learn Space This is an example of one of our most active wiki spaces. This is a page in one of the ART class wiki homepages. Students use the wiki functions to write an essay on a particular piece of artwork. The instructor is able to change the page directly, allowing the student to view the edits. They are also allowed to comment on the paper or allow other students to view and make suggestions. Copyright: University of Central Oklahoma

14 Team or Collaboration Space
This an example of a Team collaboration that is not a class. This wiki is a space for one of our biology professors and his research assistants to gather thoughts, post notes or discuss upcoming events regarding their research project. Unlike traditional classes, this wiki remains up semester to semester with the material that has been collected. Copyright: University of Central Oklahoma

Division Space - (OIT) This is an example of using the wiki system for a Information Technology Division purpose. We use the system to publish and revise our Change Management documents, it works very well since it is a localized, shareable space, users are able to add comments and make revisions as necessary.
