Our mission at Creek View Elementary is to develop competent and confident lifetime learners in a caring environment.

3. Attendance
More severe consequences for unexcused absences and tardies/early check-outs
Send written excuse within two days of your child being absent.
All excuses must be a written excuse or a doctor’s note.
Refer to Code of Conduct for detailed information.

4. Emergency School Closing
Stay tuned to local news stations for school closings
An will be sent as soon as I know about the closing
Students will go home usual way unless they are Creek View Daycare or ride Daycare vans. Those students will be sent to car riders.

5. Reading ARI (Alabama Reading Initiative)
Phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension
90 Minute Reading Block – Following the College and Career Ready Standards
First 10 Days of Reading
Literacy Small groups (Daily 5)
Intervention – 30 minutes to work with students who struggle in specific areas
Comprehension-The reason for reading

6. Math
Math Program-Investigations (Focus on problem solving, use of manipulatives, explaining one’s thinking, multiple ways to solve a problem (real world, not just in math), words+numbers+pictures to explain thinking)
Instruction based on NCTM and CCSSM process and priority and content standards.
Hands on
Math Intervention-30 minutes to work with students who struggle in specific areas
Whole group instruction vs. Small group instruction
Daily Data/Math Morning Work/Math homework

7. Writing Workshop Process/Conference Approach

8. Handwriting

Will start off the year reviewing manuscript.

9. Spelling
Conventional spelling is important and it is our goal. We understand the role of invented spelling in working towards conventional spelling.
Embedded in Writing workshop.

10. STAR BINDER
Stands for (Students Taking Academic Responsibility)
Sections
* Office Notes- Important notes for my family
* Graded Papers- Sent home on Wednesdays. Sign first test & return papers
* Homework- 1 side for homework that is complete, & 1 side for homework that needs to be completed
* Keep at home- any work in this section may be left at home
* Student Data- students will keep track of fact fluency and reading progress
***S.T.A.R. binders are brought home every night and should be signed by you. Please check your child’s agenda in the back for any homework assignments.

11. Weekly Newsletter
The weekly newsletter will be ed or sent home in your child’s STAR binder.
The newsletter will inform you about upcoming events and activities that your child will be participating in at school.
They will also keep you informed about what your child is learning in school.

12. Conferences Will be held before the end of the first nine week period.
We will have another conference during the third nine week period to discuss your child’s progress.
Anytime you have concerns, we can schedule a conference.

13. Lunch
Our lunchtime is from 10:30 and 10:32 each day. You are welcome to eat with us any time. You can meet us at the benches by the lunchroom doors.
Your child will be issued a 5-digit lunch number.
Lunch is $2.75 per day and breakfast is $1.25 per day for students.
Lunch checks need to be labeled with your child’s 5-digit lunch number so that it will be credited to your child’s account. Please do not include any other money with lunch checks.
You may send a simple birthday snack for the class to eat
during lunchtime on your child’s birthday if you would like.
Please do not bring fast food items for your child to eat
during lunch. (McDonald’s, Arby’s, etc…)
If anyone needs a free or reduced lunch form,
please let the office know as soon as possible.

14. Daily Snack Please send a healthy snack and drink from home each day.
Snack needs to be brought in a snack bag or paper sack with your child’s name on it.
You may want to use a freezer pack to keep cold items from spoiling.
Please no candy or cokes!

15. Medicine
Medicine – All medication must be brought to the school office by an adult. The adult will be required to fill out a short medication form. Students are not allowed to keep medicine in their book bags. This includes cough drops.
Allergies- Please alert me of any food or seasonal allergies that your child may have. We are a nut free classroom, so please don’t send anything with nuts.
Sickness- If your child has been sick please make sure they are fever, vomit and / or diarrhea free for 24 hrs. before they return to school.

Transportation

Your child will be given a transportation tag to wear on his or her book bag.
If you plan to change your child’s transportation for any reason, I must have a parent note so that I can send it to the office to be approved. I cannot send a child home a different way without a note. This is for your child’s safety.

17. Field Trips We LOVE to have parent chaperones on our Field Trips!
Fall: Rock Quarry- limited to 1 chaperone per class
Winter: McWane Center
We LOVE to have parent chaperones on our Field Trips!
All students ride on buses
All parents drive in cars
No younger siblings may attend
No check-outs are allowed from the field trip site

18. Donations
If you would like to make a donation to our classroom you might want to consider:
Purchasing a Gift Card for our classroom.
(Wal-Mart, Staples, Parent-Teacher Store, etc…)
Making a monetary donation to the school.
(½ classroom teacher & ½ CVES General Fund)
Checking the weekly newsletter for items we need
in our classroom throughout the year.
Box Tops – 10 cents each
