4 Since the last CHILA, we are excited to share what we are most proud of….
Our Community Champions The enthusiasm of our team Recruiting three women with lived experience  Developing an aim and driver diagram The desire of our team to make change The diversity of our steering committee

5 A story about something we learned since CHILA1….
We have to go slowly to go fast. It was important that we had Community Champions on board before we selected our aim. Denise's story is amazing and a testament to the importance of peer support. That we need to inspire our community with a vision of what is possible. The untold story of Skid Row residents.

6 What we learned about engaging community members with lived experience
Their perspectives are spot on That quality housing=access to thriving. Women still feel oppressed when they move into housing that does not accommodate their needs for safety, health, overall access to other needs. (Suzette's description of her apartment.)  We cannot and should not move forward without the voices of our sisters and brothers with whom we partner for change.

7 What we learned about engaging the BROADER community in developing our aim
Choosing our time to engage very carefully and planning our communication very carefully. There is general excitement for our work, and we don't yet know how to engage the broader community in it. We need to talk to people doing similar things and learn from them. Engaging the broader community will create more lasting change. It is hard to engage the community without an aim. The needs are so vast, you can get lost if you don’t know where you are going.

8 Our aim for SCALE is….. AIM: Provide women living in or receiving services in the Skid Row Community with the opportunity to create sustainable change in their lives by promoting and strengthening individual protective factors through increasing social connectedness, community mobilization, and access to health and behavioral health services.  INTERMEDIATE OUTCOME: By the end of 2016, at least 100 women living in or receiving services in the Skid Row Community will experience improved health outcomes and increased well- being/quality of life.

10 Metrics we are considering to track our progress
Individual Wellness Plans Goals Developed by client with case manager Goal Reviews at 6 months and 1 year to determine if goals are met Quality of Life as measured by self-assessment Cantril’s Ladder WHOQOL DWC Metrics Form

11 What we learned from “Switch”
Gotta be clear about the path or the elephant will just eat his/her way through the brush. Focus on the Bright Spots (DWC Women's Health Clinic). Shrink the change-DWC bringing in housing resources/leveraging other grants to pilot new aim/concept. Change IS possible! Help people see themselves in a new light. Help people see that they are already part of the way there. That we all have riders and elephants within us.

12 Top two things we learned from other communities since CHILA1
They are all facing the same challenges - the differences being the geography and the aim. They are hopeful and excited about this work.

13 Our biggest challenge(s) right now are…..
The homeless services system is in chaos right now with every system and governance entity deciding to jump into the fray and solve the problems Needs Assessment, Community Asset Mapping--best approach to doing it/can we utilize the work done by My Skid Row (facilitated by Skid Row Housing Trust), and how to make this bigger/more engaging than just within DWC. That there are only 24 hours in a day! Getting everyone in the same room. Systemic issues are overwhelming. How to increase the will of the community. Emotions can outweigh logic.

14 We hope to learn this at CHILA2…
Metrics Developing leadership skills of Community Champions Understanding what flexibility there is in writing our aim Building a metrics system that does not die of its own weight The scope of aims developed by all the projects
