Flat-knit construction of compression garments Flat-knit fabric is composed of the body yarn and the inlay yarn, and the tightness of the knit determines the coarseness of the fabric. Garments made of flat-knit fabric need to be stitched and are usually custom fit for better shape conformity. The total number of needles can be increased or decreased to produce variation in width and shape. The garments are generally coarser, less cosmetic, and stiffer; however, they are also better at bridging skin folds and less likely to cut the skin or cause a tourniquet effect.
