2 Easy to let ourselves be deceived
From without: 1 Jo 3:7 Little children, let no one deceive you… A. It is easy to let ourselves be deceived. 1. From without. (cf. 1 Jno. 3:7). a. By what we are told (1) Family received false notice of death of son during war. (2) False doctrine. b. By our senses. (1) Grandpa King's dog. (2) Jacob's “hairy arms”. (3) Joseph's bloody coat. Easy to let ourselves be deceived

From within: 1 Jo 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 2. From within. (cf. 1 John 1:8) a. Our state of mind. (1) A desire for pleasure rather than truth. (2 Thess. 2:10-12). (2) A desire to have a thing so: “Blind love”; “Miracle cures” b. Our ignorance. (cf. 1 Tim. 1:13). (1) Kicking “cat” in dark. (2) Medicine without reading label. B. It must be especially easy to be deceived in three areas where specific warning given. Discussion: Easy to let ourselves be deceived

1Co 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. I. Without obeying the Gospel? Act 10:1-2 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. 2. Just because they “believe?” Mat 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to Me, ' Lord, Lord, ' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ' Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? ' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! ' C. Many think all good religious people are going regardless... 1. Even the saved can become disqualified: 1Co 9:27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 2. Some believers apostatize. (1 Cor. 9:27). About Who is Going to Heaven

13 Influence of Evil Company
1Co 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits.“ 1Co 5:9-10 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. II. Be Not Deceived About The Influence Of Evil Company. (1 Cor. 15:33). *** A. Cannot avoid all worldly company. (1 Cor. 5:10). B. Do need to avoid close company with evil ones - like “running with”. C. May form evil companionships in a number of areas. 1. Morally and doctrinally (Context of 1 Cor.15:33 is doctrinal). 2. Romantically: Dating and marriage. 3. Socially: Through work, school, recreation. 4. Religiously: Through some common interest or positions with false teachers. Influence of Evil Company

17 Full harvest is not immediate… Gal 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. B. Many think the full harvest is immediate. (cf. Gal. 6:9). 1. Will reap token in this life. About Sowing & Reaping

18 Token harvest of good things in this life… Mar 10:29-30 So Jesus answered and said, " Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time — houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions — and in the age to come, eternal life. B. Many think the full harvest is immediate. (cf. Gal. 6:9). 1. Will reap token in this life. a. Good. (Mk. 10:29,30… About Sowing & Reaping

19 Token harvest of good things in this life… Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matt. 6:33). About Sowing & Reaping

23 “Plenty of time to get my life right…” “The good life is here and now…” “I don’t need to obey…”
Conclusion: A. Be Not deceived into thinking plenty of time to get life right. B. Be Not deceived into thinking world offer the really good life. C. Be Not deceived into thinking you do not need to H. B. R. C. B. Be Not Deceived
