3 THE PROBLEM: A well producing in Natural Flow (NF) or Gas Lift (GL) can not produce due to a high Top Head Pressure (THP). An usual option consist to install a Multiphase Pump, but this is associated with a high CAPEX and OPEX and also security issues. likewise a high GOR can limit the pump's application. 5 Gas Displacement Pump (GDP)
THE PROBLEM: A well producing in Natural Flow (NF) or Gas Lift (GL) can not produce due to a high Top Head Pressure (THP). It could be possible in some cases transport de oil crude via truck instead of pumping. 6 PROPPOSAL Next is shown the Description of the Gas Displacement Pump (GDP), a proposal to transport the well's fluids from the head to the flow station without a mechanical pump or trucks, using instead an available source of high pressure near the well´s location (Usually the same of the gas lift system).

8 HOW WORKS THE GAS DISPLACEMENT PUMP
TO GAS GATHERING SYSTEM 1200 psig HIGH PRESSURE GAS (IN THIS CASE 1200 PSIG) V3 V1 OPEN TO ALLOW THE LIQUID DISPLACEMENT CLOSE TO MOVE OUT ONLY THE LIQUID THE PRESSURE REACHED INSIDE THE VESSEL IS ENOUGH TO BRING THE FLUIDS UNTIL THE FLOW STATION ( IN THIS CASE 300 PSIG) 300 psig 5 psig CLOSE AFTER DEPRESSURIZE THE VESSEL OPEN TO DEPRESSURIZE THE VESSEL FILL OF THE VESSEL LIQUID FROM THE SEPARATOR 60 psig V2 280 psig OPEN TO DISPATCH THE LIQUIDS TO THE FLOW LINE CLOSE TO PERMIT THE VESSEL´S FILL SEE V1. V2 AND V3 IN THE PREVIOUS SHEET

9 Gas Displacement Pump (GDP)

10 ADVANTAGES OF THE GDP Less expensive than a Pump (Single phase or Multiphase) Due to It don't have mobile parts, it almost don't need maintenance. It don't consume electricity only small quantities of high pressure gas which will be recompressed. The device is easy and cheap to make using recovered material. The performance of the GDP is analogous to a positive displacement pump. If you need more pumping capacity, the system automatically increase the number of strokes by a time period.

11 GDP ISSUES You need a reliable source of high pressure gas (Usually 1200 psig) In a biphasic current a previous liquid gas separation is recommendable. You will not consume electricity but you have to consider the compression cost in your economical evaluation. Usually the larger the pumping capacity the container size increases.

THE DEVICE WAS USED FOR PUMPING CONDENSATE FROM A GAS COMPRESSION PLANT TO CRUDE OIL STORAGE TANKS (APPROXIMATELY 2000 METERS AHEAD), USING 1200 PSIG NATURAL GAS

14 THE LIQUID WAS PUMPED IN FEW MINUTES, USING 1200 PSIG NATURAL GAS
BILGE PUMP DEVICE INSTALLED IN 2007, IT WAS USED TO PUMP OIL AND WATER FROM A RECOLECTION CELLAR TO A TANK INSIDE THE SAME LOCATION, ITS CAPACITY IS 350 BARRELS PER DAY. FULL AFTER BEFORE EMPTY THE LIQUID WAS PUMPED IN FEW MINUTES, USING 1200 PSIG NATURAL GAS

15 GAS DISPLACEMENT PUMP (GDP) INSTALLED IN 2010
IT WAS USED TO PUMP LIGHT CRUDE (30° API) FROM 600 TO 900 PSIG IN ORDER TO MIXER WITH A GAS LIFT CURRENT BEFORE THE INJECTION TO THE OIL WELL, USING 1200 PSIG NATURAL GAS. LIQUID RATE BPD.
