The Electoral College Used only to elect the President
Established in the Constitution Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector. Article II, Section 1

Each elector has 1 vote for President and 1 vote for Vice President—See amendment 12 Each state receives a certain number of electors based on its representation in Congress Number of Senators Number of Representatives in the House Equals the number of electors for that state Texas: 2 Senators + 36 Representatives = 38 Electors
