8 What does Joint Commission expect of Clinical Engineering?
Medical Equipment Management Plan: Written Medical Equipment Management Plan Selecting and acquiring medical equipment Written inventory of medical equipment Written procedures for inspection, testing, and maintenance Criteria for inspection, testing, and maintenance Safe Medical Device Act Reporting Emergency procedure

9 What does Joint Commission expect of Clinical Engineering?
Monitoring Environmental Conditions: Equipment problems, failures, and user errors Medical equipment damage Other performance monitoring Annual evaluation

10 What does Joint Commission expect of Clinical Engineering?
Maintenance Strategies: Testing before initial use Maintenance of Life Support equipment Maintenance of Non-life Support equipment

11 Why do we need control numbers?
Unique identifier for each device Track each equipment history from “cradle to grave”, i.e., initial inspection to disposal Track departmental ownership Assign and track scheduled Preventive Maintenance for each device Support database queries for “Alerts and Recalls” Facilitates report generation – analysis, trends of repairs, failures, parts used

12 Health Care Technology Through the Ages
