4 Sasol SH&E Policy We, the people of Sasol, striving for excellence in all we do, recognise the impact that our activities can have on people and the environment. Safety, health and protection of the environment will form an integral part of our planning and decision making. We will manage our company, wherever we do business, in an ethical way that strikes an appropriate and well reasoned balance between economic, social and environmental needs. We are committed to: – Conducting our business with respect and care for people and the environment – Responsible utilisation of natural resources – Implementing responsible care for all Sasol’s chemical and associated businesses. Non-chemical businesses will implement appropriate, recognised codes of practice – Continually improving our safety, health and environmental performance – Complying, as a minimum, with all applicable legal and other agreed requirements – Promoting dialogue with stakeholders about safety, health and environmental performance

10 Sasol Oil & Chemical fatal incidents in SA - 2004
30 October 2004: Natref fuel depot 2 contractors (Driver and surveyor died as result of fire at loading bay). 1 September 2004: Polymers Ethylene Plant 4 employees, 6 contractors (Shutdown work. Ethylene release and explosion). 21 June 2004: Sasol Synfuels 1 contractor (Explosion at Phenosolvan Plant West).

11 Sasol Mining fatal incidents - 2004
8 October 2004: Sasol Mining - Bosjesspruit Mine 1 employee (Tractor driver reversed into operator who died). 3 August 2004: Sasol Mining - Sigma Mine, Sasolburg 1 employee (Roof fall dislodged a wall and killed a worker 30 m away). 14 July 2004: Sasol Mining - Syferfontein coal mine 1 employee (Miner crushed by a shuttle car). 1 July 2004: Sasol Mining - Middelbult coal mine 1 contractor (Gas bottle explosion in container). 2 Feb 2004: Sasol Mining – Twistdraai Mine 1 contractor (Working inside crushing unit, not isolated).

13 Benchmarking Sasol’s safety performance
Fatalities USA Census of Occupational Injuries reports for 5559 fatalities in 2003 Agriculture/forestry/fishing: fatalities per employees Mining: Transportation: Construction: SA Coal Mining (DME 2003) 45 Sasol (2003/04) fatalities per employees Injuries Sasol’s injury frequencies in best quartile of USA chemical companies.

14 Additional safety initiatives at Sasol
There is no greater priority in Sasol Additional group safety objectives and requirements Behavioural-based safety rolled out to all South African sites Focus on recognition and addressing hazards DuPont review to obtain an expert and independent view Address business specific critical issues

15 Status of DuPont safety review
Site safety reviews will be completed end February Analysis and verification end March Feedback expected next quarter There is a good foundation for safety at Sasol

16 Safety challenges facing Sasol
Achieve zero fatality target Work with unions to improve safe working on Sasol sites All employees and contractors implement safe working behaviours Address contractor issues Agree and implement safety improvement plan (Includes input from Dupont safety review)

SHARP - HIV/AIDS PROGRAM Energy energy and greenhouse gas reduction Water water use reduction projects - SA Operations Mozambique – community projects Significant investment in Mozambique in partnership with that government natural gas production and transmission project Governance, accountability and transparency
