Franz Joseph blamed Serbia (King Peter).
He gave them a ultimatum:
Take steps to get rid of all terrorist (black hand) and any other anti-Austrian societies.
Allow Austrian officials into Serbia to make sure the job is done.

3. AND SO IT BEGINS! Serbian Response Serbia is given 48 hours to reply
King Peter agrees to the first demand but does not want Austrians in Serbia.

4. On July 26th Austria starts shelling the Serbian city Belgrade.
July 29th ,the Serbians ask Russia for help. They say yes because of sympathy. (lots of Slav’s in Russia)
The Russians begin to get the troops ready.
3rd Balkan war in 3 years

5. July 30th, Germany tells the Russians to stop getting their troops ready.
August 1st, Nicolas II refuses and Germany declares war on Russia.
August 2nd, France declares war on Germany. “Schlieffen plan” begins.
August 4th, England sends B.E.F to help Belgium
August 5th, All great powers are fighting.
