The Books of 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude
Lesson 45: The Books of John, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude Scriptures in quotation marks are taken from the KING JAMES VERSION of the Bible.
3
1:5-7 – If we say “we have fellowship” with Christ and “walk in darkness” (habitually sin), “we lie.” 2:4 – He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments is a liar.
4
2:9-10 – He who says “he is in the light” and hates his brother “is in darkness.” He who abides in light loves his brother. 3:17 – How can the love of God be in anyone who has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but does not help him?
5
4:9-11 – Because God loves us we should love one another, which reveals that He lives in us.
4:20-21 – If we do not love our brothers and sisters in Christ, whom we can see, how can we love God, whom we have not seen?
6
Deity = The state of being God or having a divine nature
2 John – If anyone comes to you and does not bring the teaching of Christ exclusively—do not receive them into your house, for he who does shares in their evil work.
7
3 John 9-10 – He loved to be first, or in the spotlight, and was trying to be a dictator. He was also gossiping about John. Jude 4 – Some men had come into the church and turned the gospel of grace into a license to sin.
8
Balaam (Num. 25:1-9) – Led others into sin for personal gain
Cain (Gen. 4) – He worshiped without a blood sacrifice for sin, thus representing salvation by good works. Balaam (Num. 25:1-9) – Led others into sin for personal gain
9
Balaam (Num. 25:1-9) – Led others into sin for personal gain
Core, or Korah (Num. 16) – He and his followers rejected the authority of Moses and tried to assume it themselves. [They represent those who try to reject the authority of God.]
