Good way to give dramatic impact If object is too large or too small models may be a better choice Photographs and Drawings Must be large enough for the audience to see Most effective to put on a Powerpoint to enlarge

A visual aid used to show statistical trends and patterns Line Graph-A graph that uses one or more lines to show changes in statics over time or space the most common type of graph Pie Graph- A graph that highlights segments of a circle to show simple distribution patters Best for illustrating simple distribution patterns Bar Graph-A graph that uses the vertical or horizontal bars to show comparisons among two or more items

A visual aid that summarizes a large block of information, usually in a list form Do not include too much information-no more than 7-8 items Video Effective way for dramatic impact Do not make the clip too long-no more than 30 seconds Make sure the video is cued where it needs to start-edit if necessary Be aware of low resolution The Speaker Demonstrations are useful to clarify a point for an audience

Prepare in advance Use them while practicing Keep visual aids simple Limit slides to manageable information Make sure visual aids are large enough DON’T HAVE WORDS IN ALL CAPS-SAVE FOR SPECIAL EMPAHSIS Use limited amount of text Briefer is better

Use fonts effectively Choose clear fonts, use the same font of slides, larger fonts for main points, smaller fonts for sub-points Use color effectively Find a contrast between the background and the font Use images strategically Make sure the images are large enough to see Make sure the resolution is high Keep graphs and charts clear and simple

9 Guidelines for Presenting Visual Aids
Display visual aids where listeners can see them Check the room beforehand to see the best place to set up visual aid Do not stand in front of visual aid Avoid passing visual aids among the audience Listeners will focus more on if they are going to get the visual than your speech Distribute anything you want to hand out at the end of your speech Display visuals only while discussing them Add blank slides to Powerpoints, display models only when using it

10 Guidelines for Presenting Visual Aids
Explain visual aids clearly Translate and relate them to the audience Talk to your audience, not the visual aid Keep eye contact with the listeners Practice with your visual aids Go through your presentation multiple times Make sure you know where the slides should be clicked Check the room and equipment Always have a backup!
