1 MLA Like a Boss

2 Step 1: Change the Font Your paper must be typed in Times New Roman size 12 font.

3 Step 2: Adjust Margins To change the margins, click:
Page Layout>Margins>Custom Margins… The Left, Bottom, and Right Margins will be 1” The Top bottom will be 0.5”

4 Step 3: Insert Page Numbers
Every page must be numbered. To add page numbers, do not simply go to “Header” instead you must click: Insert>Page Number>Top of Page> Plain Number 3 Always remember to change the font to Times New Roman! It will default back to Calibri

5 Step 4: Write Heading Your heading should always look like this: Name
Teacher’s Name Course name (English 11) Date (written like: 12 November 2014)

6 Step 5: Title From the end of your date: press enter two times
click “Center Align” (or Ctrl+E) type your title press Enter twice Press the Tab button, and now you’re ready to start typing!

7 Step 6: Spacing After you have finished your first line of text, follow these steps: Press Ctrl+A to highlight your entire paper Right click on highlighted text and click Paragraph Change “Line Spacing” from Multiple to Double

8 Moving Right Along… Now that your paper is in the correct format, you’re going to learn how to create in-text citations. In Text Citations are when you directly quote from, summarize, or paraphrase an outside source

9 Citing Evidence When referencing somebody else’s work you must acknowledge that person in one of two ways. Using a signal phrase Including the author’s name in your citation. This site helped a lot:

10 Signal Phrase A signal phrase is a phrase, clause or sentence that that introduces a quotation. Example 1: Susan Vreeland writes that Magdalena "loves looking out at the sea" (8). Example 2: Magdalena is a pensive girl who longs "to sit for a painting" like her sister (Vreeland 8).

11 But hey, what if… If you don’t know the author’s name: Use shortened version of title in quotation marks Example: ("Magdalena" 8). If there are no page numbers: Cite Paragraph number. Example: (par.4). Lower case p

12 And Remember, Kids… Longer publications (such as Books, newspapers, etc) are Italisized Short works (such as articles and short stories) are “in parenthesis” And finally…

13 Creating a Works Cited Page
At any point during your writing, click Insert>Page Break This will start a new page below the page you are currently working on and will always stay one page away from what you are writing.

14 Formatting a Works Cited Page
To create a Works Cited page: Insert page break Center Align (ctrl+E) and type Works Cited Press Enter twice Paste the citation that you created from Easybib.com Press Enter Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all of the sources that you used in your paper

15 Formatting a Works Cited Page II
Once you have all of your sources on the page: Highlight all of your sources Right click on the highlighted area and select Paragraph In the Indentation section, under Special, change it from (none) to Hanging
