1 Aim of projet: to study multiscale
Chemical force microscopy for measuring the interactions between cellulosic oligomers B. Manship1,2,3, F. Ferry1,2,3, C. Roux4,5, M. Terrien1,2,3, C. Sillard1,2,3, F. Dubreuil4,5, R. Passas1,2,3 Introduction Paper is made up of a network of interconnected ligno-cellulosic fibres. During the paper making process fibres undergo a combination of high levels of humidity, pressure and heat to create strong inter-fiber bonding. The mechanical properties of paper rely mostly on1: the mechanical properties of the fibres within the paper2 the level of inter-fiber bonding3,4 The present research focuses on paper repair mechanisms. Importance of studying parameters affecting inter-fiber bond creation, especialy adhesive forces between cellulosic materials. Aim of projet: to study multiscale interactions by AFM Measurements From oligomer and model surfaces to fiber/fiber interactions Tip/surface Chemistry for functionnalization Fibers immobilization Contact force applied Tip/substrate adhesion Energy dissipation Tip without functionalization curvature radius 11 nm Maltoheptaose functionalized tip curvature radius 41 nm Bending stiffness Raw data Force spectroscopy curve Promissing results Interactions parameters Topographical and force mapping for a cotton fiber using a maltoheptaose functionalised tip : Adhesion Force (nN) Tip size (curvature radius) and chemistry Humidity level Need of an environement cell => poster Contact Time Local roughness Humidity level (%) Acknowledgements References This work was conducted within the CellAdher project supported by the PolyNat Carnot Institute 1 Papermaking science and technology. 16, Paper physics, ed.
