How Voted The Three Estates
In the Estates-General, the three estate voted separately. The representatives of the third estate had one vote only, while the estates of the privileged had two. After May 5th 1789 the fight for the achievement of equal rights began.

The Early Stages of the Revolution
When the King learned about the attack he claimed: “But this is a revolt!” , but one of his attendants corrected him: “No, Your Majesty, it’s a revolution.” On 14 July 1789, a huge crowd of sans-cultures (a name, given to the poor Persians) stormed the Bastille, which was used mainly as a state prison.

The Declaration Of The Rights Of Man and Citizen
The deputies representing the third estate and their supporters among the deputies representing the estates of the privileged formed the French Constituent Assembly. They eliminated the class privileges and the feudal rights, as well as the church tithe. On 26 August 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was adopted.

The Failure of the Constitutional Monarchy
Louis XVI could no longer rule as an absolute monarch. With the adoption of the Constitution in 1791, France became a constitutional monarchy. The Constitution was short-lived. The King’s conspiracy with the aristocracy in emigration and the foreign monarchs against the revolution aroused the discontent of the Parisians.
