1. Discussion on The Taming of the Shrew
1. How has Shakespeare used the “Induction” to introduce his play? Do you think the use of the Induction will add to or subtract from the play as a whole? Give reasons for your answer.
2. How is the Bianca-Lucentio subplot interwoven in the main plot? Does the subplot add to, or subtract from, the main Kate-Petruchio battle?
3. What do you think of what Petruchio says about his taming done in the name of “perfect love.” Analyze and evaluate Petruchio’s taming strategies and process.
4. Why is Kate willing to put up with the kind of treatment she gets from Petruchio? What is your opinion of Kate’s long speech near the end of play (lines )? Has Kate really been tamed?
5. Compare Lucentio with Petruchio in temperament, character traits, appearance, dress, methods of treating their women, and social outlook.
6. The play ends with three marriages. Which of them do you think is most likely to succeed? Why?
