1 ETR-NASA DTN Phase-1 Test Results

2 Test Items Focus was on exercising the CCSDS File Delivery Protocol (CFDP) over Bundle Protocol (BP) and evaluating NASA’s ION DTN Implementation, including CFDP, BP and Licklider Transmission Protocol (LTP) NASA DTN Engineering Network (DEN) was used for the testing, with nodes at JSC, ETRI and HanYang University (diagram on next slide) Four kinds of CFDP tests were performed ID Test Name Test Objectives CFDP-01 Fragmentation performance To check CFDP file transfer performance at different fragmentation conditions (LTP Segment size and CFDP PDU size) CFDP-02 Performance in link delay To check CFDP performance in lunar link delay conditions (1.3 seconds one-way) CFDP-03 Store & forward function To check store-and-forward function of CFDP over BP with multiple hops and non-continuous contacts CFDP-04 Re-transmission performance To check re-transmission performance of LTP under packet loss rates of 0%, 1% and 5%

PHY KPLO Spacecraft ETRI Space Link NASA DEN (JSC) DSN NASA DEN (JSC) KPLO MOC HYU Notes: 1. ION version was used on each DTN node 2. Contact rate (All Links) and LTP udplso rate (JSC<->ETRI) were limited to 5 Mbps

4 CFDP-01 CFDP-01: Fragmentation performance Fragmentations, file size
LTP segment size: 1.35KB, 16KB, 64KB CFDP PDU size: 1KB, 10KB, 64KB File size: 100KB, 1MB, 10MB Measured parameters Throughput, File checksum value Network configuration ETRI/HYU node: Source or destination NASA DEN(JSC): Relay node

5 CFDP-01 Throughput measurement
End-to-End throughput were measured with bpdriver/bpcounter command (100 bundles equal to CFDP PDU size) Path: ETRI→JSC→HYU, HYU→JSC→ETRI For different CFDP PDU size Throughput (Mbps) LTP segment size (KB)

6 LTP segment size (No Aggregation)
CFDP-02 CFDP-02: Performance in link delay Link delay: 1.3 sec. in DEN (only on JSC<->ETRI Link) Measured parameters Throughput (100 bundles equal to CFDP PDU size) File checksum value LTP segment size (No Aggregation) CFDP PDU size Path File size Checksum Validated Throughput (Mbps) 16KB 64KB ETRI→JSC→HYU 100KB OK 2.383 1MB 10MB HYU→JSC→ETRI 1.376

7 LTP segment size (No Aggregation)

8 CFDP-04 CFDP-04: Re-transmission performance Link conditions
Delay: 1.3 sec. in DEN (only on JSC<->ETRI Link) Packet loss control: 0%, 1%, 5% in DEN (only on JSC<->ETRI Link) Measured parameters Throughput (100 bundles equal to CFDP PDU size) File checksum value For different LTP segment size Throughput (Mbps) Fixed Value CFDP PDU size: 64KB File size: 10MB Packet Loss Rate (%)

9 Summary Phase-1 Testing Summary Phase-2 Test Plans
All CFDP tests between ETRI-JSC-HYU were successful Had some DEN configuration and throughput issues that delayed testing some, but were able to work around the problems CFDP-01 showed that larger CFDP PDU sizes improve throughput, with small differences in varying the LTP segment size CFDP-02 showed that BP/LTP can handle lunar delays CFDP-03 showed that CFDP/BP can successfully operate over multiple hops with non-continuous contacts, demonstrating store-and-forward CFDP-04 showed that in the presence of data loss, smaller LTP segments improve throughput Phase-2 Test Plans Evaluate Additional DTN Applications: Asynchronous Message Service (AMS) and Bundle Streaming Service (BSS) Evaluate Additional DTN capabilities: Bundle Protocol Security (BPSec) and Asynchronous Management Protocol (AMP) [TBC]
