3 Purpose This app focuses on Secondary to Tertiary Transition and allows TEOs and Secondary schools to explore the transition of school leavers into tertiary education. The transition shown is the learners’ first enrolment in qualification-based tertiary education where the enrolment occurs after they leave school.

4 Examples of what you can discover
How many learners are transitioning to tertiary education or not transitioning to tertiary education. Which Tertiary Education Organisation (TEO) school leavers are going to and conversely which schools a TEO draws its learners from. What level of achievement learners left school with, for example NCEA Level 1, 2 or 3 or below Level 1, and what was the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) level of the qualification they first enrolled in at a TEO. Whether transition rates are changing over time. The time delay between learners leaving school and their enrolling in tertiary education and The highest level of qualification learners have completed in tertiary education. What fields of study learners enrolled in based on the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED)

19 What are the kinds of things this data can give you line of sight on
Say I want to know where my kids are going and what they are doing when they have an achievement level of below Level 1 I select my school under the secondary school tab Click on the Secondary School Highest achievement tab and select “ Below level 1 qualification” Across the top I see the information. I had 200 kids leave school with below Level 1 qualifications since Of those 200, 120 have enrolled in a tertiary education organisation and 75 have not. NB: to protect the privacy of individuals all learner counts have been rounded to the closest 5

20 Of the 120 who have gone into tertiary education
Of the 120 who have gone into tertiary education. I can see on the right hand side which organisations they have gone to. If I go and select the “Transition by NZQF tab “ I can view the number of enrolments by gender and qualification NZQF level and the number of enrolments by qualifications NZSCED area of study....

21 Some things to consider......
When you look at the programmes schools leavers are going into some times we need reflect back on how we prepared kids for their next step on their journey. Tertiary providers can get a sense of what kids are learning in school and how they can align programmes to best meet the needs of their learners and the needs of employers. There are many conversations that can be initiated off the information in these data sets that supports effective pathway design and programme alignment, particularly as kids transition from school into further education, training, and work.
