1 Where do you go for answers to spiritual questions?
Pope Frances Dalai Lama Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I Thomas S. Monson Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Dalai Lama – Tibetan Buddhism Pope Frances – Roman Catholicism Bartholomew I – Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople (Eastern Orthodox Church) Thomas S. Monson – Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – Goes back to Joseph Smith Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – Islam goes back to Muhammad who was supposed to have received prophecy over the course of 23 years as the angel Gabriel revealed the Quran to him, piece-by-piece. A caliphate is a form of Islamic government led by a caliph —a person who claims to be a political and religious successor to the prophet Muhammad and a leader of the entire Muslim community Imam is an Arabic word meaning "Leader".

Peter on Pentecost – Acts 2:14 The Jews response – Acts 2:40-41 Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. Acts 2: And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." (41) So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

3 Someone may help provide answers
Peter on Pentecost – Acts 2:14 The Jews response – Acts 2:40-41 Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch – Acts 8:29-35 The eunuch’s response – Acts 8:36-38 Acts 8: And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go over and join this chariot." (30) So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?" (31) And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. (32) Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. (33) In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth." (34) And the eunuch said to Philip, "About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?" (35) Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. Acts 8: And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?" (38) And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

4 Someone may help provide answers
Peter on Pentecost – Acts 2:14 The Jews response – Acts 2:40-41 Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch – Acts 8:29-35 The eunuch’s response – Acts 8:36-38 A preacher’s God given mission – Rom. 10:13-17 Romans 10: For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (14) How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? (15) And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!" (16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" (17) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

5 Beware of the false False Christ and false prophets – Matt. 24:5,11,24
While we might like to think religious leaders teach the truth, the reality is many do not. Matthew 24:4-5 And Jesus answered them, "See that no one leads you astray. (5) For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Matthew 24: Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it. (24) For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. (25) See, I have told you beforehand.

6 Beware of the false False Christ and false prophets – Matt. 24:5,11,24
False apostles – 2 Cor. 11:12-15 False teachers – 2 Peter 2:1-2 2 Corinthians 11: And what I am doing I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do. (13) For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. (14) And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (15) So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. 2 Peter 2:1-2 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.

7 Beware of the false False Christ and false prophets – Matt. 24:5,11,24
False apostles – 2 Cor. 11:12-15 False teachers – 2 Peter 2:1-2 False brethren – Gal. 2:4-5 Galatians 2:4-5 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in--who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery-- (5) to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.

8 How can we know a false person?
Test those who call themselves apostles – Rev. 2:2 Test the spirits – 1 John 4:1 Test against the Scriptures – Acts 17:11 Do not go beyond what is written – 1 Cor. 4:6 Revelation 2:2 "'I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. Acts 17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. 1 Corinthians 4:6 I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

9 How can we know a false person?
Test those who call themselves apostles – Rev. 2:2 Test the spirits – 1 John 4:1 Test against the Scriptures – Acts 17:11 Do not go beyond what is written – 1 Cor. 4:6 Let him be accursed – Gal. 1:6-9 Galatians 1:6-9 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- (7) not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. (8) But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. (9) As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

10 Personal duty not to be deceived
A real and present danger – 2 Cor. 11:3-4 Receive what is due – 2 Cor. 5:10 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (4) For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

11 Personal duty not to be deceived
A real and present danger – 2 Cor. 11:3-4 Receive what is due – 2 Cor. 5:10 How do we avoid being deceived? Continue in Scripture – 2 Tim. 3:12-17 Walk in the light – 1 John 1:5-7 2 Timothy 3: Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, (13) while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (14) But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it (15) and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (16) All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 1 John 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (6) If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
