Burley Prospects for 2017 Overall volume contracted appears it will be down slightly Most growers have experienced decreased contract volume A few growers have been offered increases Prices vary by company A few increases on top grades Mostly flat to slight decreases Specific stalk position requirements by some companies.

Tobacco companies can be choosy when selecting growers with whom to contract. Grower that make an effort to observe and comply with GAP principles may have an advantage under these conditions.

Recommended Spray Program for Foliar Diseases in Float System
Begin weekly sprays with Manzate Pro Stick when plants cover the cell. 1 level teaspoon per gallon Use fine mist (hollow cone nozzles) Spray until solution runs off leaves Can mix with acephate if needed Clip first then spray After 2nd clipping make one application of Quadris 4 cc in 5 gallons water per 1000 square feet Do not mix with other chemicals Continue with weekly Manzate sprays until plants go to the field

Managing Leaf Spots in the Field
Keep transplants well protected to avoid introducing disease Rotate away from fields with a history of severe leaf spot disease Consider an application of a protective fungicide (manzate pro-stick) if disease appears early Arrange nozzles to achieve thorough coverage of all leaves

Angular Leaf Spot Bacterial disease occurring following damaging weather events. Streptomycin has been standard control recommendation. AgriMycin: 1 lb per 100 gal (200 ppm) Try to get at least 50 gal/A on crop 3 to 6 or more weekly sprays No limit on applications, no PHI Resistance?? Other options: Actigard 50WG 0.5 oz per acre Can spray up to 3 times on 10-day schedule Do not apply within 21 days of harvest Copper: Nordox 75WG: 2 ½ to 3 lbs/A Copper-Count-N: 4 to 5 qts/A Application schedule similar to streptomycin
