2. Ana Mendieta
Cuban-American sculptor, photographer, filmmaker, painter and performance artist.
Born November 18, 1948 and died September 8, 1985.
Got sent to America with her siblings, by her parents to have a better life.
Feminist and used the earth as her canvas/ inspiration .
Her husband was Carl Andre.
She died in New York with her husband while drunk and after falling out of her apartment building.

3. Carl Andre Ana Mendieta's husband.
He had a important role in her life and artistic career.
They met when she was at a gallery through friends and instantly had a vibe.
They each had opposite personalities which made their relationship so vibrant and unexpected.
Some say Carl pushed Ana out of their apartment window the day she died because they used to argue a lot while drinking.

4. Body of art Ana Mendieta did a lot of sculpting.
She used things like glass, blood, the ground/dirt, flowers, mud and hair.
She created many of her pieces to inform her viewers about abuse towards women through sexual assault and physical assault.
She was a feminist and had strong opinions about her the female image and having the equal amount of power/fame as men in the art world.

6. "Siluetas" series 1976 Siluetas meaning silhouettes.
This was Ana's series of imprints of her body in the earth.
She creates this to represent how we are all connected to the universe in some shape or form.
This was one of her most famous pieces, which she created while she was at the University of Iowa.

This shows the I,age of assault towards women.
These are photographs of her.
Piece #2
Ana put a beard on her face made from her husbands beard hair.
This was used to represent the male image in her eyes.
This was created to show the opposite perspective other than just the females.
Piece #3
Ana photographed her face pressed against glass pieces.
This piece was created to show the emotion of sexual assault.
