1 Ch 1-8 Review Classifying Polygons
Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review Classifying Polygons In geometry, a figure that lies in a plane is called a plane figure. A polygon is a closed plane figure formed by three or more segments. Each segment intersects at their endpoints. No two segments with a common endpoint are collinear. Each segment is called a side. Each endpoint of a side is a vertex. Geometry Foundations, pg 65

2 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review To name a polygon, start at any vertex and list the vertices consecutively in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Geometry Foundations, pg 65

3 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review Geometry Foundations, pg 65

4 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review You can classify a polygon by its number of sides. The tables below show the names of some common polygons. Geometry Foundations, pg 65

5 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review You can classify a polygon as concave or convex, using the diagonals of the polygon. A diagonal is a segment that connects two nonconsecutive vertices. In this textbook, a polygon is convex unless otherwise stated. Geometry Foundations, pg 66

6 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review Geometry Foundations, pg 66

7 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Review Geometry Foundations, pg 66

8 Perimeter, Circumference, and Area
Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Perimeter, Circumference, and Area Geometry Foundations, pg 67

9 Ch 1-8 Part 1 Focus Question
Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 In the Solve It, you considered various ideas of what it means to take up space on a flat surface. Focus Question How do you find perimeter and circumference? The perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of its sides. The circumference of a circle equals times the diameter. Geometry Foundations, pg 67

10 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 The perimeter P of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of its sides. For squares, rectangles and triangle, you can use formulas for perimeter. For circles, use a formula to find the circumference C. Geometry Foundations, pg 67

11 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 67

12 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 68

13 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 68

14 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 68

15 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 69

16 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 69

21 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the perimeter or circumference of basic shapes. Part 1 Geometry Foundations, pg 71

22 Perimeter, Circumference, and Area
Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the area of basic shapes. Part 2 Perimeter, Circumference, and Area Geometry Foundations, pg 72

23 Ch 1-8 Part 2 Focus Question How is area different from perimeter?
Students will be able to find the area of basic shapes. Part 2 Focus Question How is area different from perimeter? Area measures a region enclosed by a polygon whereas the perimeter measures around the outside of a polygon. The area A of a polygon is the number of square units it encloses. For figures such as squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles, you can use formulas for area. Geometry Foundations, pg 72

24 Ch 1-8 Part 2 Students will be able to find the area of basic shapes.
Geometry Foundations, pg 72

25 Ch 1-8 Students will be able to find the area of basic shapes. Part 2 When measuring area, use square units such as square inches (in.2), square feet (ft2), square yards (yd2), square miles (mi2), square centimeters (cm2), and square meters (m2). To find area, you should use the same unit for both dimensions. Geometry Foundations, pg 72-73
