1 Starter: Complete the ray diagrams correctly.
Label the angles (incidence, reflection, refraction) and the normal lines. For the dispersion diagram draw two rays, red and violet to show how they change direction and pass through the prism to reach the screen. Don’t forget to write down the law of reflection and the order of the colours in the spectrum.

2 Lesson goals… Recall the electromagnetic spectrum in order from shortest wavelength to longest. Suggest common uses of each part of the spectrum. Recall the properties that all electromagnetic waves have in common

3 Homework Learn the order of the types of electromagnetic spectrum from highest frequency to lowest frequency and an example of their use ready for a mini-test next lesson. I will you a sheet to help you (I need to take in your books today)

4 What is an EM wave? Light is a tiny part of the EM spectrum.
There are other types which carry more energy and others which carry less We have found uses for all of them.

5 All EM Waves Can travel through vacuum
Travel at light speed ( km/s!) Can be reflected and refracted Transfer energy from one place to another

6 Energy The higher the frequency (shorter the wavelength) the more energy they carry Gamma waves carry the most energy. Long wave radio waves carry least energy

7 Uses we have found for EM radiation include…

8 Electromagnetic Spectrum
