1 Refraction Lv4: Describe the term refraction.
Lv5: Draw ray diagrams for refractions Lv6: Apply refraction to shooting fish in a barrel. Entrance Activity Define the following terms in the your books: Opaque, Transparent, Translucent (Give examples of each one) Key Words Refraction Ray diagram Angle of refraction Angle of incident Opaque, Transparent, Translucent

2 Refraction KEY WORD ALERT!
Level 4 Refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one substance to another. E.g. from a gas to a solid. Level 5 Refraction is when light changes direction due to it moving from one medium to another. Level 6 Refraction is when light changes direction due to it moving from one medium to another. This is due to the light changing speed when passing through the medium.

3 Refraction Lv4: Describe the term refraction.

4 Independent Learning Activity
Self-taught Refraction Independent Learning Activity Without the support or guidance from your teacher attempt to learn about the rules of refraction all by yourself! Complete the three worksheets below using the equipment provided.

5 Explaining refraction

6 Self-taught Refraction Teacher Assessment

7 Reflection ray diagram

8 Refraction Lv4: Describe the term refraction.

9 “Why is it difficult to shoot fish in a barrel?”
Learning Activity “Why is it difficult to shoot fish in a barrel?” HINT! Think about refraction. What has that got to do with shooting fish in a barrel?

10 “Why is it difficult to shoot fish in a barrel?”
Teacher Explanation When light passes from the water through to the air it changes the direction of the lights path. This makes the fish appear to be in a different position.

11 Refraction Lv4: Describe the term refraction.

12 Complete the plenary worksheet on refraction and reflection.
