THE RAINFOREST By:LAUREN O. YAP and CAROLINA N. CHIRINOS LARIOS

2 What is a rain forest? A rainforest is a wet tropical place near the equator. The whole rainforest looks and is green. A rainforest is a place where half of all animal species live. A rainforest has all different types of plants like the cocoa tree or the banana tree.

3 Location of Rain Forests
Rainforest are found in South America, Australia, Madagascar, Central America, and Asia. Rainforests are always near the equator.

4 Emergent Layer The Emergent layer is the very top of the rainforest.
The trees that are over the canopy layer are part of the emergent layer. Harpy eagles, sloths, monkeys, parrots, and butterflies live in the Emergent layer.

5 Canopy Layer The Canopy layer is just under the emergent layer.
Some animals live in the canopy like three toe sloths, boas, and woolly monkeys. The canopy layer’s nickname is ‘The Green Sea.’

6 Understory Layer The Understory layer is just beneath the canopy layer. It is also above the Forest floor. It is the second layer in the rainforest. Butterflies, geckos, parrots, katydids, macaws, tree porcupines, jaguars, and capuchin monkeys live in the Understory layer. Lianas are like vines that grow in the Understory layer.

7 Forest Floor The forest floor is the last layer in the rainforest.
It is the bottom of the rainforest. Tapirs, armadillos, tarantulas, anteaters, jaguars, capybaras, and many more live in the forest floor.

8 Deforestation Deforestation is people cutting down trees in the rainforest. Deforestation is bad for animals that live in the rainforest. When a part of a rain forest is cut down it becomes a mining place, grass for cattle, places for homes, and the wood will become floors and furniture.

9 People of the Rain Forest
Do you think animals just live in the rainforest? Well think again. In fact, people live there too. People who live in the rainforest look like Indians.

10 Monkeys

11 Waterfalls

12 Conclusion Please help save the rainforest!!!
See what difference you can make!!!
