Q 1. Read the question carefully.
Which of the following items is not permitted to be taken into the Calculator Numeracy test? Read the question carefully. A. A calculator The calculator should not be multifunction or internet accessible. B. A phone to use as a calculator C. An eraser D. A sharpener E. 2B or HB pencils Other items which students are not permitted to take into the test: :• books, including dictionaries • rulers • coloured pens or pencils • mechanical lead pencils • felt pens • highlighters • correction fluid • glue • reusable adhesive • mobile phones • calculators (other than for the Numeracy Calculator Allowed test) In this part of the test students should use the calculator they currently use at school or are most familiar with. The calculator should not be multifunction or internet accessible. Test administrators should check to ensure that information that might advantage a student has not been stored on the calculators. Ensure you have a reserve supply of calculators for students who do not have their own. “Eeeekkk! I’ve forgotten some equipment” – let your supervising teacher know. © LearningYou

The Numeracy tests have multiple choice questions and constructed response questions. Which of the following is true? In constructed response questions there is an answer box Not true! But the questions do get more difficult as you work through the test. A. Multiple choice questions are easier than constructed response questions. Not true! Most questions require working out – that is what the blank piece of paper is for. You can ask for more paper if you need it. B. You immediately know the answer for a multiple choice question and can answer them quickly. Most questions require you to do some working - use your blank piece of paper. Not true! You can write on the test paper. Circle or underline important information in the questions. Put a “?” beside questions you are not sure of so you can come back to them if you have time. D. If your test begins at 10:45am at approximately what time would you be answering Question 24 (assuming you are answering the questions in numeric order)? A. 11am The questions get harder as you work through the paper so you will need more time for the later questions. Teachers: should write a time sequence with start and finish times including ten-minute intervals on the board. • provide students with general encouragement to continue.
