QUALITY CONTROL

About: A dictionary definition of this is ‘the observation techniques and activities used to fulfil requirements for quality of a product or service’ This is where effectively we are controlling something, in this case the product quality Quality Control is commonly referred to in companies as QC. This is used widely these days & virtually a legal requirement, is very much required by customers who are buying into products and service from their suppliers. Without such a system in place, the customer has no guarantee that product of service has been through a system of checks at: the very start during its various stages during manufacturing at the send

About: Also without a set system of checks in place, a customer is not convinced so the supplier may lose custom & at the worst case scenario go out business. With a system in place, where checks do occur at all the necessary stages, the product or service be checked and monitored. Action can then be taken if any defects are picked up. Quality Control is frequently abbreviated as QC. We will now go on to see how and where checks can take place. ml

Consider: We have looked at how a pizzas & drinks are monitored / checked in a food factory, now is the time for us to look at and consider - what checks, where and how often the Thorex Nylon Hammer would undergo QC. This needs to be looked at in detail, satisfying the 3 areas: (beginning, during & end) and explain why these checks can help to improve the quality of the Hammer.

Group Activity: Watch the video, making notes & decide what checks, where, when & how often QC checks need to be made (30 Mins)5 I would suggest to draw a flowchart to aid you in deciding. In your set group you will need to appoint: A task leader Person(s) to take notes Person(s) to draw up the flowchart A speaker

At the Very Beginning: At this early stage, there are a number of things that would require checking: The raw product materials The manufacturing machinery Any initial parts bought in and used (grip) Adhesive quality

Intermediate Checks to be Carried Out
Faces size Handle size Head size Head internal thread Faces external thread Faces into head tightness Head onto handle rigidity
