Fiber optics (LAMDA-P)

2
What is fiber optics? An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made of high quality extruded glass (silica) or plastic, slightly thicker than a human hair. It can function as a waveguide, or “light pipe”, to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber. The field of applied science and engineering concerned with the design and application of optical fibers is known as fiber optics. Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic communications, which permits transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates) than other forms of communication.
3
Composition and type of fiber cable
Optical fibers typically include a transparent core surrounded by a transparent cladding material with a lower index of refraction. Light is kept in the core by total internal reflection. This causes the fiber to act as a waveguide. Fibers that support many propagation paths or transverse modes are called multi-mode fibers (MMF), while those that only support a single mode are called single-mode fibers (SMF). Multi-mode fibers generally have a wider core diameter, and are used for short-distance communication links and for applications where high power must be transmitted. Single-mode fibers are used for most communication links longer than 1,000 m.
4
Instruction of fiber stripper
Fiber stripper: Instrument to remove fiber jacket (as strip wire sheath) It can be used to fiber cable having from 125 μm to 250 μm jacket. If you don’t use, lock the stripper using fastener.
5
Composition of fiber cleaver
Fiber cleaver: Instrument to cut the fiber having cladding and core cleanly. If you cut to use general cutter, fiber will lose its function.
6
Instruction (fiber cutting)
Open the cover and move the stripped fiber cleaver with matching cutting length. At this moment, cutting length of the fiber that set exactly should be confirmed by the ruler. Close the holder cover.
7
Instruction (fiber cutting) cont.
After closing the cover and confirming that end of fiber is aligned well or not. Then move the slider to cut the fiber. Open the cover and confirm fiber cutting.
8
Instruction (fiber cutting)
Open the holder cover and remove the cut fiber. At this moment, please be careful that fiber should not be stained with dust. For next usage, cut fiber should be removed by tweezers. At this moment, be specially careful that it is possible to get damage to hand easily due to fiber and blade.
9
Instruction (change of blade channel)
Open the cover and fix the slider by hand. Take out the wrench from bottom of body to use.
10
Instruction (change of blade channel)
Loosen the set screw to rotate properly (about 2 rotations). Rotate anticlockwise in a gradation step to be large the gradation number by swab. Fixation is implemented reversely.
11
Instruction (exchange of blade)
Loosen the set screw to rotate properly (about 2 rotations). Loosen the set screw of the slide with inserting the wrench at the bottom of body. At this moment, the slider should be stepped back.
12
Instruction (exchange of blade)
After rotating and inserting the bottom of the wrench bolt at blade pin, blade is removed by pulling the bold using tweezers. Exchange the blade as shown in figure. At this time, be careful specially that blade is not damaged. Assembly is reverse process of disassemble and fasten the bolt strongly.
