Equality – valuing all individuals and offering them an equal opportunity to reach their potential in employment, or to access a service. Diversity – difference; recognising that individuals do have differences and seeing the value in those differences.

The Six Stages Of Stereotyping
Form First Impression This is often based on how a person looks, but it could be just on hearing their name, what paper they are reading, what they are doing when you see them etc. Categorise This is where you put people into groups and label them. Attribute Characteristics Once you have labelled a person you attribute characteristics, you decide what sort of person they are, their strengths and weaknesses.

Predict Behaviour Having decided on a person’s characteristics you start to predict how they will behave, what sort of job they might have etc. Reacts Accordingly This is where the person acts just as you predicted. They might have the job that you thought they had, or react as you predicted to a certain situation, which ..... Confirms Stereotype We knew that anyway – didn’t we?
