Curriculum Map The curriculum map is currently being updated. The topics will broadly stay the same and the current version is online. The new version will available online, when it is completed.

Phase Expectations

Trips Throughout the year there will be a variety of trips. These will probably include: British Museum (Greeks) Intech Planetarium (Space) Cathedral trip You will be given plenty of notice about upcoming curriculum related trips and the costs involved.

Homework Given out on Friday, returned to school the following Thursday. Ten spelling words for your child to learn. Reading journal. Children are expected to complete two of the reading tasks every week if possible (one is essential). Maths and English tasks will also be set. These will be relevant to the learning that is taking place in the classroom. Maths homework may include the use of Mathletics. AJS does run a Homework Club every Wednesday for half an hour during lunch time.

Reading Your child will read with the teacher, in a guided reading group, once a week. They will also complete guided reading tasks every day. These may include comprehension activities, dictionary and thesaurus skills, writing tasks about books read etc. Reading is a focus at AJS and is being encouraged at home with the Reading Journal and Reading Journal tasks.

PE 5J: Monday and Tuesday 5S: Monday and Thursday
We recommend the children wear trainers, not plimsolls. Also, as the weather gets colder, jogging bottoms are recommended. Please remember all jewellery must be removed and earring tape supplied.

Communication Newsletters
At the beginning of each unit, a newsletter will be sent home containing information about what we will be learning in the classroom. This will include the core Christian value, subjects to be covered and the outcome of the unit. Available at the end of the day Classes will be lead outside at the end of the day. We are usually available to chat briefly at this time. Appointments For any issues or concerns, you are welcome to book an appointment to see me and discuss these in greater detail.
