HARRY POTTER IN LATIN AND ROME

In 1987 J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series went to the university if Exeter in England where she went and studied French and the classics which incorporated into her writing of Latin and Roman culture in the Harry Potter series FUN FACT 1

Many of the creatures featured in Harry Potter are based off those in Roman myths

We have learned about Remus and Romulus, featured in the Novel is a character by the name us Remus Lupin, based on Remus from the Roman myth. Not only this but the last name Lupin is based on the Latin word for she wolf "lupa". This is no coincidence considering a trait of this character is to turn into a wolf.

FUN FACT 4 JK Rowling did not use only Roman Latin background she also pulled characters and ideas from other Romance languages closely related to Latin.

FUN FACT 5 Possibly the most well known Harry Potter spells "Expecto Patromun" is in all Latin meaning I am expecting a guardian.

Part of the reason JK chose Latin is because it's old, and mysterious, very few people can read it, though the words will ring a bell because there are so many roots of Latin in modern language

Only 1 all in the Harry Potter series has no Latin root, because it's based on the common play spell – Abra Cadabara

One of the 3 main Characters, Heromine Granger is said to be based off the princess Sparta. The 3 point where the characters parallel is : the hard working attitude, both parents leaving in the same manner, being pursued by 2 men.

Draco ties into 2 aspects : the Latin term Draco means "serpent" or dragon. And in ancient Rome draco was a viscous law maker.

Professor McGonall is named after the Roman goddess of wisdom
