CONCLUSION A comment on Boudicca’s actions What the Romans learned
13
During the Roman occupation in Britain, the Celt tribes cooperated with them. However, some cultural differences caused problems. For instance, Celt women had more rights than roman ones. Boudicca was the wife of Prasutagus, leader of the Iceni. When the king died in 60 AD, the Romans confiscated all his lands. Boudicca protested but she was humiliated by the Romans. Boudicca then got very angry. She organized an army, attacked four Roman Roman-British towns and burnt them to the ground. In the end, however, her army was defeated. People say she poisoned herself rather than become a prisoner of the Romans. Boudicca’s character has become legendary in British history but many people think she did wrong because she caused the death of thousands of innocent people. The Romans certainly learnt that it was a mistake to make her angry.
