Agenesis of lateral maxillary incisors, prosthetic solution after space opening: Case report. D. WAGNER a, B. WALTER b, a Resident, HUS; b Professor in the prosthetic department, HUS. INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND Dental agenesis affects 6% of the general population. This prevalence varies according to studies. Agenesis of lateral maxillary incisors (1.5%) is more frequent as they are the second most absent teeth seen in an orthodontic population. Two treatment options exist to manage hypodontia either closing or opening spaces. After orthodontic treatment teenagers and young adults are still growing and immediate implant placement should be delayed. Removable prosthesis could be used in this transitional stage however that may not reach patient’s expectations. Therefore bonded bridges could be an alternative. CASE REPORT A fifteen-year-old singer presented bilateral agenesis of lateral maxillary incisors. After two years of orthodontics treatment, he wore a palatal plate, with two prosthetic teeth, which interfered with pronunciation while singing . Flat coronal teeth morphology and anterior infraclusion were observed. As temporary restoration, we proposed an acrylic splint. Bridges were made with IPS e. max Press® low-translucency for the armature and with IPS e. max Ceram® for the stratification. FOLLOW-UP CONCLUSION One year later : occlusion was functional, oral hygiene was satisfactory, phonation and aesthetics were improved. The chosen therapeutic proposition with bonded bridge has a high success rate potential as stated by the literature with a published survival rate of 70% and a bonding success rate in the anterior maxillary sector of 95% after 10 years. This restoration could easily be removed for later implant treatment. It fulfilled the aesthetic and functional specific needs.
