A Chinese man name Chang Heng designed the first known earthquake detector around A.D It was a bronze urn decorated with six dragons’ heads. Each head held a bronze ball in its mouth. A pendulum was suspended inside the urn. During a tremor, the urn would strike the pendulum, causing one of the balls to drop into the open mouth of a bronze toad below. The ball would make a loud noise, signaling the occurrence of an earthquake’s epicenter.
