1 QUIZ #3 (write name, ID) To compare four brands of tires, one of each brand (with all identifying marks removed) was randomly assigned to the four locations on each of 50 cars. After 30,000 miles, the tires were removed and the remaining tread was measured. What are the explanatory and response variables? Is this experiment blocked? Why or why not? Suppose we observe the average remaining tread to be significantly different among the four brands. Could we then claim that the different brands CAUSED the difference? Why or why not?
